Pet Sitting

When you are away from home, for work or pleasure, The Placid Pet can ensure that your animals are properly cared for in the comfort of your home.

During each scheduled pet sitting visit, your pet care provider will:

Play/walk/visit with your pet(s)

Replenish food and water

Administer medications (pills, liquids, shots, intravenous fluids, etc. -- please see How We Do Business FAQ #7 for related information)

Clean litter box, cage or terrarium

Collect and dispose of dog waste

Adjust lighting and/or drapes

Collect mail and newspapers

Water plants

Based on the information obtained about your pets and their typical routine, we will create a detailed checklist for your pet care provider to use at every visit. Please see New Client Procedure for more information.

As a client of The Placid Pet, you have 24/7 world-wide access to a secure Web-based service, that allows you to:

Request service on-line

Daily Schedules -- Minimum Number of Visits

For CATS, the typical schedule is one 15-minute visit per day. At least one visit every 24 hours must be scheduled. The Placid Pet does not offer every-other day service for cats.

Some of our clients prefer a longer visit for their cat, and opt for one 30-minute visit per day. For some clients, multiple visits are necessary for example, for cats who are diabetic and require two shots each day, at a 12-hour intervals.

For INDOOR DOGS , the typical schedule is one 30-minute visit in the early morning (before 8 AM), one 30-minute visit in the evening (between 4 and 6 PM), and one 15-minute late night visit (after 9 PM). This typical schedule is also our required minimum daily schedule for indoor dogs.

If a dog is an INDOOR DOG WITH 12 TO 24 HOUR ACCESS TO A SECURE AND FENCED YARD (for example, the dog is free to roam the house, but can access the yard via a pet door), then two 30-minute visits a day might be an option we can offer, but it depends on the set-up, and whether or not the dog is ever otherwise confined.

For BIRDS or SMALL CAGED ANIMALS (guinea pigs, hamsters, snakes, frogs, etc.), one visit daily is usually sufficient. The length of the visit depends on the number of chores that need to be completed, but 15 to 30 minutes is typical.

Overnight Service / House Sitting

(Overnight service is available on a very, very limited basis! It may not be available to new clients, depending on staff availability.)

Overnight service is essentially three-visits-in-one:

Dinner-Time Care: This visit typically starts between 4 and 6 PM. Visit length is determined by the needs of your pets at dinner time.

Overnight Care: If your pet sitter cannot stay at your home starting with the dinner visit (in other words, he/she needs to leave for a few hours and then return later in the evening), then the pet sitter will be back no later than 9 PM to spend the rest of the night in your home with your pets.

Morning Care: AM care typically starts when the pets wake-up (or when they wake up your pet sitter!), and ends when the pet sitter leaves for the day.

Mid-day visits may be added, for an additional fee. A 15-minute visit is commonly paired with overnight pet sitting service.

Please Note: Most professional pet care providers who offer overnight pet sitting service charge a fee that is similar to The Placid Pet's fee, but they do NOT include the dinner-time visit as part of overnight care. The Placid Pet is one of few pet sitting organizations in the country (and frankly, may be unique!) to include the dinner time visit as part of overnight care.
